We arrived a couple of days ago in Mexico. Here, we've almost always had good luck living frugally, but it's harder here than it has been before. The American way of life has caught on here and prices are now set for the tourista rather than the local. A manicure in the US is $20; in Mexico, it's about $17. Wash and blow dry: $28. The tourists are upset by the rise in prices, but it seems inflation has hit everywhere. Even the massages -- which used to run around $30 for an hour -- are now up to about $45.
But the life here is so much simpler that there's no need to spend a lot of money. So relaxed that you don't need to worry about new clothes, dry cleaning, etc. Food in the supermarkets is still a bargain. Life here is good. I've got no complaints. Well done, Mexico.
